Bijol Island Trip

Managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management of Gambia this is an amazing and isolated place just off the coast. A truly exhilarating and unforgettable boat trip can be arranged, in advance, and takes around 15 minutes to reach Bijol Islands. Gulls and terns breed there in impressive numbers and occasionally Skimmers can be seen. Daily numbers of visitors are restricted and trips are entirely dependent on the weather. Royal and Caspian Tern, White and Pick-backed Pelican, Slender-billed and Audouins Gull plus Osprey all vie for a place in this sometimes extremely crowded Island (by birds of course) of barely a mile in length. Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit and other familiar waders feed close to the lapping waters edges.

All year round but weather dependant – mostly wind.
